+&+ redesigned an existing building scheme into a Passivhaus `Plus`. Affordability was the main challenge; key architectural strategies included reducing superfluous square meters and a compact layout. They transferred auxiliary functions from the higher-cost performance building to a low-cost Alfresco barn. The program was split into two building volumes, creating a semi-contained outdoor zone. The outdoor entertainment areas required spatial definition from column colonnades and paving zones. The striking views of Mt Abrupt from the farmland are now a highlight of the project.
WHAT TO EXPECT:
Visitors can study the thermal envelope of a Passivhaus. The project is still under construction; the building enclosure will be on display. Architect`s drawing of slab and envelope details will be exhibited.
Explore aspects of energy efficiency; find out how the Passivhaus standard achieves ultra-low heating and cooling needs.
Learn about the synergies between architectural design and applied building physics. The Architect is also a Certified Passivhaus Designer - ask him why this is of advantage.
Be inspired how the Passivhaus standard can be achieved in an affordable way.
Learn about the health benefits of a continuous ventilation system.
Inspect high performance triple glazed timber framed windows
Find out what thermal bridge calculations are all about and how they play a part in energy efficient building projects.
