We want to prove that it does not take a complete renovation and extension to create a passive house, and as we currently understand it, this will be the first existing volume builder home that will be turned into a certified passive house (we are happy to be proven wrong). It's going to be challenging, and there are so many details we have been playing with in our heads to get this home airtight.
FACTS ABOUT THE HOME:
We are replacing the old crappy single-glazed windows with high performing triple glazed windows from @binq_windows
We are not touching the outside of the building as the existing brick veneer can't be replaced. We will be relying 100% on @proclimaau @performancemembranesau internal membrane to get the home airtight
We are super pumped to work with @corksprayau for the first time, where are using spray in cork for our floor insulation, which will also double up as our finished floor covering.
We are turning a home where the heating demand is 163kWh/m2 to under 30kWh/m2A. That is a difference of 133kWh/m2, and if you want to put that in dollar terms, the client will save roughly $5,818.75 per year on heating!!!
The majority of the Australian housing stock was built before energy efficiency standards were introduced, meaning roughly 8 million homes require some level of upgrade to meet today's comfort and energy efficiency standards. But not only will this home be super efficient!
