EVENTS: IPOD - Balmain PH (NSW)

The main outcome of the build is to create a comfortable, healthy home which has minimal ongoing energy costs. Solar PV was a must as well. The site is a small block in Balmain – 101.2m2 with a 1:1FSR. We wanted to add a 3rd floor to capitalise on the city views whilst adding an extra bedroom and opening up the downstairs living area. As the house is on a bus route cutting out the noise of traffic was a must. The back yard was to be modernised with a Japanese style garden for viewing from the sitting area inside. The kitchen was to become a flowing area where we can entertain and prepare food at the same time – all whilst being able to see the children playing.

Upstairs was to have a muti use room at the front for a home salon, but could be used in the future for a bedroom. The office was to be tucked away in one of the kitchen cupboards, again so it could be used in future for a pantry if you wished. The main bathroom has a Japanese style with a cedar bathtub in a 'wet room'.

Remediating the mould and damp issues was a must so that the house was healthy to live in. All finishes were to be low or zero VOC, Laminex was used extensively for joinery. Heat recovery ventilation was to be incorporated.

All of this while trying to keep our carbon footprint low.
