Key Points:
- The reason for building a Passive House in the current climate
- What is Cross Laminated Timber (CLT)
- Case study - CLT Passive House in Ridgeway Tasmania
Introduction:
Stuart talks in depth about the affects of Climate change and what CLT is and why it is becoming popular in the construction of a Passivhaus, using the evidence from the case study CLT Passive House in Ridgeway Tasmania. The Ridgeway CLT house is currently near the end of the certification process, which will make it one of the first mass timber certified Passivhaus' in Tasmania, and one of only a handful in Australia.
CLT provides excellent air-tightness, generally unknown thermal mass benefits, thermal bridging benefits, provides a hygienic and healthy living environment with good internal air quality, and a structurally resilient envelope against extreme weather events such as fire and strong winds.
The speed of construction on site is unparalleled, with the house envelope being erected in 10 working days. It takes 3 days to cut the CLT in the factory in Austria and just 20 seconds for the managed forests to regrow the timber used in this one home.
Join us for a 1-hour session where Stuart Hall dives deep into the use of CLT Construction for a Passivhaus Home & the evidence-based case study on CLT Passive House in Ridgeway Tasmania!
