MELBOURNE SPEAKERS

  • SPEAKER ONE: STUDIOFANG Architecture & Design - Rosana SIP Construction Project

Discussing the details of new Passivehouse project in Rosanna using SIP construction, completed Dec 2023 and range of other PH projects, some seeking certification.

  • SPEAKER TWO: Elena Cazacu - Mandating the IAQ Monitoring

Isn't Air Quality Important for your health? Why does being healthy only relate to physical exercise, regular medical checks, clean water & good food? What about the health of the buildings we are occupying and the Indoor Air Quality? Can we mandate a minimum Indoor Air Quality standard using real-time indoor sensor monitoring? We spend most of our time indoors, where pollutants can accumulate and pose significant health risks Monitoring will confirm if we breathe safe air, same as we validate the safety of the food we eat and the benefits of physical exercise for our fitness But Who Needs to Be Convinced? Governments, building owners, employers, and individuals all benefit from mandated IAQ monitoring Convincing stakeholders ensures universal access to clean indoor air, protecting public health comprehensively. Let's mandate IAQ monitoring as access to clean air is just as vital as access to clean water, healthy food, and physical fitness

  • SPEAKER THREE: Kieran Leong - The Wins and Compromises of Envelope Performance

At Thrive 2024 Sven Maxa presented the culture clash between Passivhaus, a German "it must be perfect", and an Australian "yeah, nah she'll be right". A recent project we have been working on with Aurecon is the child of these cultures! I will present insights into feasibility and envelope design process for a PHI low energy, accommodation building which is built the "Australian" way. I'll share the wins and compromises required to achieve the envelope performance which is, not perfect, but good enough and provide examples which others will be able to take to their own projects

  • SPEAKER FOUR: Shaily Shah and Mia Radic - Lessons from Passivhaus Designers

Shaily and Mia will dive into what they have learned about Passivhaus design, construction and habitation: We take you through a rapid fire rundown of a series of learnings from multiple Passivhaus case studies that we’ve designed and delivered, each with their own quirks and new problems to solve, but all connected through the Passivhaus standard. This is our experiences and learnings as Passivhaus Designers to enrich the understanding of how to go from the theory and physics of the Passivhaus Designer course to actually delivering many successful Passivhaus projects.

  • SPEAKER FIVE: Cameron Munro - Detailing Passivhaus CLT Projects

Discussing the technical overview of the design detailing of a certified PH with CLT with exterior mineral wool insulation project in Perth.

  • SPEAKER SIX: Alex Slater - Passivhaus for the Faint-Hearted

Looking at the status-quo and asking questions about alternative materials, details and strategies to meet Passive House.
